Expected results:
You will learn how to deal with your own loss issues as well as the loss of patients and families. First you will learn what a good death is and how you can help patients and families to achieve such a goal. Then you will learn the emotional and practical issues associated with death and loss for patients, families and for yourself. Next you will learn the practice of both formal and informal debriefing and you will learn to identify the most appropriate location and resources for debriefing. Finally, we will work with you to formulate a productive social support system both at work and at home.

Structure:
This will be an interactive course involving your participation though the use of surveys, hands on demonstrations and discussions.

  1. Recognize how to achieve a good or
    appropriate death
  2. Identify the typical issues surrounding
    death for families and nurses
  3. Define the process of debriefing
  4. Create your own support system
