Expected results:
Through an interactive seminar you will learn to understand psychoneuroimmunology which is a new field of research that examines how the mind affects health. You will learn what stress is and how stress can be drastically altered by appraisal and by coping. Then you will learn the neuroendocrine and immune pathways that are affected by different forms of stress and coping. Next you will learn how health behaviors (e.g., diet, smoking, exercise, etc.) can affect these pathways. Finally, a large portion of time at the end of the seminar will be used to help you to formulate a plan to reduce your susceptibility to stress, reduce health effects once stress has already occurred, and promote overall wellness.
